AIDS Education: 20 Years After Ryan White - Lecture and Reception

"Indiana University’s Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevention and the School of HPER invite you to this extraordinary event, honoring the 20th anniversary of Ryan White’s death, and the profound influence it made in the area of HIV/AIDS awareness.

Featured Guests include:
Douglas Kirby, PhD - Senior research scientist at ETR Associates.
For nearly 30 years, he has directed state-wide and nation-wide studies of adolescent sexual behavior, including school HIV/STD and sexuality education programs. Dr. Kirby will discuss the changes in HIV/AIDS education in the past 20 years and the elements of the programs that are most effective.


Jeanne White Ginder - Mother of Ryan White.
Jeanne travels the country speaking to groups about her son’s struggle for equality during his illness. Her tireless efforts and work with Congress resulted in the creation of the “The Ryan White Care Act”, the single largest federal program designed specifically for people with HIV in the United States. Jeanne will reflect on Ryan’s legacy.

[She] was instrumental in his acceptance in the Hamilton Heights School District. She is an IU alumna, and founder of the IU Dance Marathon which has raised over $7 million for Riley Children’s Hospital. Dr. Waibel will be presented the Ryan White Distinguished Leadership Award. "
